About Helder Luis
Some info about me…
I was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1973.
I studied graphic design and multimedia (mostly self-taught), and in 1996 i created my own graphic design and multimedia studio, i called it notype after the old typography machines (Linotype) i loved so much.
Since then i’ve working in several fields of graphic design and multimedia and some of my work was published in books, magazines and fanzines. And i’m constantly updating my know-how through conferences, workshops and master classes.
As an artist, i’ve created work in several fields, such as: photography, painting, video, installation, music and dance, and have been developing work in collaboration with several artists, producing live shows and art events. I’m currently a member of HouseLab, a network of creative artists from Portugal, and explored live video performance with collective and individual projects such as: Landscape, System Modular, GinSonic, Module_01 and Stochastic.
My work as an artist (individually or collectively) has been presented in several countries such as Spain (Barcelona), England (London), Italy (Milan), Germany (Hanover), and Brazil (Rio de Janeiro).
As a musician, i had a couple of rock bands, one of particular interest, Clockwork Orange, ended up as Clockwork and went on to become one of the most influential undergroung rock bands in Portugal.
As a consultant, cultural producer or curator, i worked with several companies and institutions like Apple, Adobe, experimentadesign, ACARTE, Festival de Curtas Metragens de Vila do Conde, Teatro Rivoli, Museu de Serralves and Porto2001.
After 2001 came LAB52, a dynamic company that focuses on the development of innovative solutions through research and development. LAB52 works closely with artists, producers, directors and organizations to create effective and innovative solutions, using most of the time off-the-shelf components in creative and innovative ways. LAB52 has produced work with artists such as Julião Sarmento, Rui Horta, Rui Toscano, Paulo Feliciano, Rafael Toral, Colette Sadler, among others and companies/institutions such as Vodafone, experimentadesign, Festival de Curtas Metragens de Vila do Conde, Porto2001.
My latest business project is Ethertype, a sub-brand of notype dedicated exclusively to webdevelopment.
My next business project will be Chromma, together with photographer Carlos Lobo, we intend to start a book publishing label…
