I remember friends of mine who bought products from Behringer, they same they where as good as the original… but cheaper…
I knew back then that it might be as good as, but it was a rip-off, they could sell cheaper because they hadn’t invested money on R&D and design… and that bothered me.

Actually, it still does… that’s why it’s very difficult to me go out and buy copies of original products.
Hey, but that’s just me… feel free to enjoy the new economy!

I love my Apple iMac 24″. I really do, but let’s face it… the 20″ was good enough for me, too bad i had to return it… the LCD panel was just trash… and in trash i mean the worst monitor i’ve seen in an Apple product (not counting the old Peforma monitors)…

The 24″ LCD panel is top notch, too bad Apple put a glass in front of it… i mean, it’s practically a mirror that does some computing ; )
The reflections are something i’ve never seen in any monitor before, not even on CRTs… i had to close the window doors to get away from the reflections during the morning… and trust me, i have a great view from my office window!

Then i tried calibrating the thing and my Pantone Huey gone mad with it… the only way was to do it with the office totally dark!
Moving on, after some time and some hard work, my eyes started to suffer, why? Find all about it on Google! People are complaning about burning eyes because of too much light comming from this thing!!! Even turning brightness all the way down doen’t solve it!

The solution, cut down on the gamma!

I’ve found some posts in Apple Forums regarding a software called Shades, but also read that it also burns too much CPU, and it’s basically an overlay on top of you monitor image.
I’ve found a much better solution, it’s called DarkAdapted X and it’s free! It doesn’t tax you CPU that much and works through gamma values. Although i’m still looking for a way to create a special color profile for this problem (just take down the gamma 25% down of a Huey calibrated color profile).

Regarding the glass, still hopping Apple gives us a replacement for the the mirror glass, maybe just a black frame, please Apple!

“Korg’s new nanoSeries devices are designed to meet the needs of artists who like to make music on the go but don’t want to make any sacrifices in the control department. The range features three compact products: nanoKEY, nanoPAD and nanoKONTROL.”

“Predictably enough, nanoKEY is a keyboard – a 25-note, velocity-sensitive model. As well as being useful for recording chords and melodies, it can also be used to send MIDI control data. It will ship with a download code for the full version of Korg’s M1Le – a cutdown version of the synth that forms part of the Legacy Collection Digital Edition bundle.

With its 12 trigger pads, the nanoPAD looks set to appeal to laptop DJs – an X/Y pad is also included – though the roll and flam functions suggest that it’ll also be useful for drum programming. Toontrack’s EZDrummer Lite will be freely available to owners of this one.

Finally, there’s the nanoKONTROL: this offers nine faders, nine knobs, 18 switches and a transport section. As such, it seems perfect for DAW and plug-in control, though there is also a note input mode. A discount code for Ableton Live will come in the box.

All the nanoSeries controllers are bus-powered and connect over USB.

No news yet on how much these cute-looking devices will cost or when they’ll be available, but if Korg can get them out at the right price and they feel as good as they look, MusicRadar reckons it could have three big hits on its hands…”

Umm, looks like just what i need, some new toys to finally get me to record some new music…
I really like the 70’s retro toy look… : )

Bob Moog’s synthesizers and effects changed the world. Now, the company that bears his name is trying to apply its vision to a new instrument: the guitar.

The Moog Guitar puts revolutionary new technology in the hands of the guitarist. Moog Music is known for building the finest instruments and the Moog Guitar is first and foremost a very fine guitar; designed to be played by the best musicians as their primary axe. Its AAAAA maple top, mahogany body and ebony finger board bespeak the quality that musicians have come to expect from a Moog instrument.

The addition of Moog Guitar Electronics opens guitarists to a whole new musical vocabulary: Not a guitar synthesizer, not a MIDI guitar or an effects processor; players are intimately connected to The Moog Guitar because it works its magic on the strings themselves.

What makes this guitar so special?
The Moog Guitar Electronics add an unparalleled range of expression to the Moog Guitar:
FULL SUSTAIN MODE – like no other sustainer; infinite sustain on every string, at every fret position and at any volume. You may have heard sustain before but not with this power (we call it “Vo Power”) and clarity.
CONTROLLED SUSTAIN MODE – allows you to play sustained single or polyphonic lines without muting technique. The Moog Guitar sustains the notes you are playing while actively muting the strings you are not playing.
MUTE MODE – removes energy from the strings, resulting in a variety of staccato articulations. The mute mode has never been heard on any other guitar; the Vo Power stops the strings with the same intensity that it sustains them. You feel the instrument transform in your hands.
HARMONIC BLENDS – use the included foot pedal to shift the positive energy of Vo Power in Sustain mode and the subtractive force of Vo Power in Mute mode between the bridge and neck pick-ups to pull both subtle and dramatic harmonics from the strings.
MOOG FILTER – control the frequency of the built-in, resonant Moog ladder filter using the foot pedal or a CV Input.

One Laptop per Child (OLPC), a non-profit organization focused on providing educational tools to help children in developing countries “learn learning,” announced that work is already underway on a second- generation version of its revolutionary XO laptop computer. Leveraging new advances in technology, the primary goal of the “XO-2″ will be to advance new concepts of learning as well as to further drive down the cost of the laptop so that it is affordable for volume purchase by developing nations.

“Based on feedback from governments, educators and most important, from the children themselves, we are aggressively working to lower the cost, power and size of the XO laptop so that it is more affordable and useable by the world’s poorest children,” said Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of One Laptop per Child. “The delivery of the first generation XO laptop has sparked tremendous global interest in the project and provided valuable input on how to make the XO laptop an even better learning tool moving forward.”

“One Laptop per Child and the XO laptop are crucial to the fulfillment of the proposed UN Ninth Millennium Goal: to ensure that every child between the ages of 6 and 12 has immediate access to a personal laptop computer by 2015, said, Nirj Deva, Member of the European Parliament. “It’s only through access to education that young people will be able to develop the skills necessary to compete globally and to develop the solutions required to break the cycles of poverty, disease and malnutrition. Learning unites the child with the world, binds the village into a community, and joins that community to the global village.”

The first generation XO laptop went into production in early November 2007, and there are approximately 600,000 units in deployment in a number of countries including Peru, Uruguay, Mongolia, Haiti, Rwanda, Mexico, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the US and Canada (as a result of the Give One Get One charitable giving campaign that ran last November 12 – December 31, 2007).

Key goals for the XO-2 include:

Cost Reduction – Set in early 2005, the original target price of the XO laptop was $100. Although that target has not yet been met (it is now at $188), it is clear that OLPC must aim for an even lower target price of $75. New developments in display, processor and other hardware and software technologies will make it possible to achieve the $75 target in the future.

Lower Power Consumption – While the first generation XO laptop already requires just one-tenth (2-4 watts versus 20-40 watts) of the electrical power necessary to run a standard laptop, the XO-2 will reduce power consumption even further to 1 watt. This is particularly important for children in remote and rural environments where electricity is scarce or non-existent. Lowering the power consumption will reduce the amount of time required for children to generate power themselves via a hand crank or other manual mechanisms.

Smaller Footprint – The XO-2 laptop will be about half the size of the first generation device and will approximate the size of a book. The new design will make the XO laptop lighter and easier for children to carry with them to and from school or wherever they go. The XO-2 will continue to be in a green and white case and sport the XO logo in a multitude of colors that allow children to personalize the laptop as their own possession.

Enhanced Book Experience – Dual-touch sensitive displays will be used to enhance the e-book experience, with a dual-mode display similar to the current XO laptop. The design provides a right and left page in vertical format, a hinged laptop in horizontal format, and a flat two-screen wide continuous surface that can be used in tablet mode. Younger children will be able to use simple keyboards to get going, and older children will be able to switch between keyboards customized for applications as well as for multiple languages. The dual-touch display is being designed by Pixel Qi, which was founded in early 2008 by Mary Lou Jepsen, former chief technology officer of One Laptop per Children and a leading expert on display technology.
