Feel, Think, Do multimedia project

Output (DO)

The output sound will be the total of the analogue/digital synthesizer controlled by the software and connected to an audio effects processor (controlled through MIDI by the software) and the recorded tracks contained on the audio CD. All the sound will be mixed and optimized for the performance area by using a mixer. The distribution of the sound throughout the speaker system will also be controlled in order to have sound from the synthesizer in the center of the performance area near the performer, and the sound from the recorded tracks on the audio CD in the perimeter of the performance area. (See renders)

Video is controlled, using data from the sensors, or generated randomly by the software. That information is then sent to a MIDI-Infrared interface, that converts prearranged MIDI messages into Infrared data, used to control the input selector of a Video Projector, making it possible to have three video decks connected to video projector, each one playing a pre-recorded video tape and being able to switch between them according to information sent by the software.

The transparencies projector receives a simple command to advance slide by slide. The info is sent from the software back to the I-Cube interface that uses a 1-Amp switch (a low voltage control switch) to control analogically the transparencies projector. The Transparencies Projector will project static images that will be composed with the video projection.

Lights work very much the same way, exept they use a different switch, the 120V switch (power switch for electrical hardware) that turns the lights on and off according to the commands sent by the software. But lights have also a double task, since they will act not only as the output but also as an input source, because they will interact with the I-Cube sensor Light that will sense when the lights are on or off, and sends information to the software according to that.

Hardware:
Dimension Beam sensors
I-Cube digital interface and sensors
MIDI interface (MOTU)
Apple Macintosh PowerBook computer
Mixing table (Mackie)
Analogue/digital Synthesizer (Novation Supernova)
Audio Effects processor
MIDI/IR interface

Software:
Opcode Max 3.5
OMS

The location where this performance will be presented needs to have a complete sound system with four speakers, a video projector (controlled by infra-red) and three VHS video decks, a transparencies projector for 35mm slides, and a set of spot and ambient lights.
